“I began working with Mariam after a bad ski accident resulted in the tibial plateau fracture of my right leg. Following the injury, it felt like I was going through a revolving door of never-ending physical therapy as I no longer knew how to train or push myself without causing sprains or aggravated flare-ups. It was incredibly frustrating and I assumed living with constant knee, ankle, and hip aches would be the new normal. After a consultation, Mariam designed a training program specifically tailored to my needs. In addition to a full body workout, the program focuses on strengthening and improving range of motion in my knee. So now not only do I have killer abs, but I’m also able to do movements and exercises my surgeon and PT doctors deemed no longer possible. Mariam’s warmth, kindness, and expertise are unmatched. She excels at helping you overcome the mental and physical fears that come with working through a significant injury. Her modifications to exercises are always spot-on, and she instinctively knows how to push you just beyond your comfort level, yet to a point that won’t cause injury. “I am 63 years old and have been training with Mariam for 5 years. When we first started, my muscles had lost strength from decades of sitting at a computer for work. Since then, I have built up significant strength, can lift much heavier weights and have increased my cardio endurance substantially. “I have been working with Mariam Taha since completing physical therapy for double quadriceps tendon surgery. The surgery and therapy got me back on my feet, but Mariam’s encouragement and wide-ranging plan to improve strength and flexibility have taken me back to normality. Her variety of exercise has addressed not only the injury, but the many muscles and tendons sidelined during the months of recovery. She has also skillfully addressed rotator cuff issues and restored full range of motion in one of my shoulders. Mariam’s clear concern for my progress sets weekly and monthly goals that I must strive to achieve. We all know these challenges are as much psychological as musculoskeletal. Mariam artfully navigates the path between these two, encouraging when appropriate and setting new challenges to be met. “Mariam has been a great personal trainer. The beginning is usually the hardest, but Mariam made it so much easier for me. With her positiveness, I threw away the self-conscousiness from holding a 10-lb dumbbell and started to focus on my own improvements. She encouraged me for each little step I made, using words and numbers. By visualizing the improvements, I am able to keep up with the good work. Additionally, she takes my feedback seriously and modifies the training accordingly. This made me feel that I myself have a voice in the training, and that this is a perfectly personalized training system. “Simply put, Mariam is the best trainer I’ve ever worked with. As a former NCAA athlete, powerlifter, and exercise science degree holder, I hardly trust anyone with my programming – including myself. From the very beginning, I could tell Mariam would be amazing. She took the time to hear my story, thoughtfully asked me about my goals, and crafted a program completely tailored to me. In the thick of COVID, I didn’t want to set foot in a gym, so had some pretty bare bones training options at home. For her, it was no problem creating month-after-month of programming that kept my body guessing and kept me engaged. She also worked around my fairly extensive injury history – providing lots of modified movements that I’ve never tried before. As someone who works from home, the negative consequences of a sedentary lifestyle weigh heavily on my mind and body. That was one of my biggest areas of focus, and she has given me so many tools and exercises to help counteract the necessary desk time, that I have much more energy throughout the day and honestly just feel healthier. One thing you’ll also quickly appreciate should you get the pleasure of working with her, is her consistency and follow-through. She regularly checks in, asks how the program is going, and doesn’t just do it to check a box. She’s adjusted things mid-program for me whenever I needed it, and always is a positive and encouraging champion of my health and fitness. Every new workout is a joy (well sometimes also a pain, but the good kind) and the strength, endurance, and flexibility and increased range of motion I’ve gained, have allowed me to go about my day with much less pain and keep me doing the things I love. Oh and I’ve enjoyed my experience so much that I recommended Mariam to my wife, and she can’t say enough great things about her either. Plus our dog Norman loves the longer walks, runs and hikes we’ve been able to take him on thanks to Mariam keeping us healthy and fit.”
